The latest creation from the legendary animator behind the shows with three staying power, The Simpsons and Futurama, Matt Groening. This new creation is the first that he has done with a powerful female lead, but one that he has wanted to do for a while.

The story follows the Bean a princess who is being forced into a marriage who doesn’t want to marry the dunce of a prince, and after their first meeting, the dunce of a prince’s dunce brother. She is joined by her own personal demon from hell called Luci, and to help throw it all into chaos is a random elf called Elfo that has decided to leave his “happy” home to pursue new things that aren’t always positive, whilst still being positive.

The storyline however quickly departs from the above and the whole thing focuses on the kings almost perverse obsession with immortality and his need for elf blood, and not so much the escape from marriage. As for the twists, well there really isn’t any.

So this is clearly done in Groening’s style, and at no stage in that forgettable, but the storyline and the comedy is like that of his earlier works, that has been forcefully migrated to a M rating.

The trailers for this show gave it such high hopes, but as usual the full version paints a different picture altogether. and it is not a very well done picture. This series has been clearly targeted to the age range of people in the mid-teens.

Having binged through all 10 episodes I was constantly on the look out for when it was going to improve, and I’m very, very disappointed to say that it didn’t.
