The first movie that began the series both on the big and the small screen, that began the massive cult following, and the wildly profitable product line that has created toys for the world.
The movie follows Hiccup the least vikingish viking there ever has been, and the son of the chieftain of the Isle of Berk. When Hiccup is forced to go into Dragon training to learn how to kill dragons, he discovers through interactions with a downed Night Fury which he affectionately calls Toothless (the most deadly of all known dragons) how to defeat them without harming them.
But when he discovers the very nest that their clan has been hunting for generations, and he refuses to give up that information, they instead take Toothless and chain him to a boat to find the nest to kill the mega dragon.
I love how much time the animators clearly spent watching the habits, movement and emotional expressions of cats to be able to get the facial emotions on Toothless and the other dragons so right, as it truly takes to this movie to an entirely new level of animation. Which as a consumer I really appreciate. It makes it so much more than just another dragon movie.
