Set in a post apocalyptic world where man and machine have turned on each other, a hand made little heshen doll with the number 9 painted on his back comes to life in the study of his creator, thinking himself alone in this new, scary world.
9 first encounters another doll of a similar make to himself but with the number 2 on their back. 2 gives him a quick catching up on what has happened to the world, and is absolutely fascinated by the little doohickey gadget button thing that 9 is carrying.
9 soon learns that that gadget is special and may hold the answer to the world they are all living in. After some unfortunate encounters with “The Machine” decides that the only way to be able to stop it, is together.
This is a very odd little movie, and I mean both odd and little. At only 79 minutes, this is one of the shortest movies that has come out in “recent” times. As for odd, “The Machine” is effectively a phylactery and the dolls are basically horcrux’s of the scientist who created it to begin with.
The animation however, is incredible. When you get the close-ups of the dolls, the detail in them is exceptional. The storyline, though brief is well told and does draw you into it quite naturally as you journey along with 9 into this world.
