I had a work colleague mention this series in passing to me last week and thought it was exceptional and highly recommended it to me. He thought it would appeal to me on a very base level of humour.
He was right.
When Gary the prisoner astronaut comes across a mysterious blob whilst he is performing some repairs on his prison ship, without knowing anything about this mysterious blob creature, he affectionately names it Mooncake. The two of them embark on a journey to keep him from the Lord Commander who want Mooncake for his own nefarious purposes.
During this they encounter a number of others who join them, and some who end up leaving them, but at no point does the slightly dark humour leave us.
It is an interesting story, and it is fair to say slightly emotional at times. The humour is on a level of being slightly inappropriate and dark from time to time. The artistry whilst clearly not realistic, is blatantly comedic in its target, and it hits its target quite successfully.
Despite it being only a season of 12 episodes, each 20 minutes or so in length, it makes it a very quick season to binge through and one that is easily enjoyable to do so with.
