For this weekend since I have been left at home and unsupervised, I am going through 20 MCU movies in the MCU’s chronological order, starting from Captain America: The First Avenger through to Ant-Man & The Wasp.

Let me just start by saying both how cute, and how awesome little Groot is. That opening battle is just hilarious. I cannot sit through it without grinning like an moron at his groovy little dance moves (which are so waaaay much better than my own).

This movie takes place not too long after the first, and takes us through the journey as to who Quill’s father is, and the absolute bastard of a guy he is. We see him at the start of the movie with Quill’s mother and a flower (which becomes a lot more important further into the movie). The movie quickly moves onto the starting battle scene (with baby Groot), and moves onto a space battle scene because Rocket got a little handsy with the batteries they just kept safe for the Sovereign.

When they escape and crash onto a planet they are followed by another ship, which we discover has Quill’s father and the empath Mantis. As he begins to train Quill in his methods, the others start to get their suspicions about him, and what they discover is something next level. There is definitely no patient and tolerant god involved in these worlds. But we at least find out the truth as to why Yondu didn’t hand him over and chose to raise him in his “pirates” when he was ordered to bring him.

It does leave it neatly open to be integrated into both the Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Like the first it has a great soundtrack that flows flawlessly with the action happening on screen.

If you saw the first and didn’t hate it, you’ll feel very much the same about this one, so get off your bum (or maybe get on it) and go watch it.
