The Avengers – 2012

IMDB: The Avengers – 2012

IMDB Rating: 8.1/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 92%

For this weekend since I have been left at home and unsupervised, I am going through 20 MCU movies in the MCU’s chronological order, starting from Captain America: The First Avenger through to Ant-Man & The Wasp.

This the real beginning of the formal Avengers series of movies does not start quietly. Following almost immediately after the events of Thor, it begins with Loki attacking a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility where experiments on the tesseract were being carried out. During the ensuing battle he converts Hawkeye and Professor Selvig in addition to some random goons, and starts to cause problems, as he begins to open a portal through space to bring the Chitari through to take out Earth.

As Fury and Agent Coulson pull the Avengers together, they have everyone onside, except the government. In addition to Agent Romanov, the get the Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America, Hawkeye and Thor together to work out how to deal with Loki.

The team finally comes together on one of S.H.I.E.L.D.s floating fortresses, only to have that nearly fall from the sky during an early battle, then the battle moves to New York, to Stark’s tower, and really comes into full force when the Chitari begin to arrive and begin laying waste.

This is the first time that we get to see all the personalities come together and have those aspects that most people don’t notice from inside their own groups too much. We see the beginning of the division between Tony and Steve, that plays out a lot more in a movie that I’ll come to in a few more hours.

The little snippet that I enjoy the most though from this movie isn’t actually part of the main movie itself, instead it’s actually the cut scene in the credits, showing Thanos properly for the first time.
