For this weekend since I have been left at home and unsupervised, I am going through 20 MCU movies in the MCU’s chronological order, starting from Captain America: The First Avenger through to Ant-Man & The Wasp.

This is the first in the modern Marvel Cinematic Universe series, that so far leads us all the way up to the battle with Thanos. Starting with the young and being honest quite scrawny little wannabe by the name of Steve Rogers, who has tried repeatedly to join the war effort (because he doesn’t like bullies) and has been turned down each time. Until he meets Dr Erskin, who thinks that he has potential.

Given a “super soldier serem” he’s turned into a super (no pun intended) buff soldier boy with the heart and mind of that scrawny kid. He now takes that passion and heart to the enemy and to the splitting almost cult like Hydra, led by the near divine (at least by his own standards) Red Skull, Johan Schmidt. These two characters quickly become best enemies and begin upping the game to get at each other.

This finalises in a plot line battle between these two combatants, on a plane hurtling towards America destined to give the yanks and real bad day.

I must say that as a standalone movie, this really doesn’t pick it up and run with it like a movie should. Whether or not it was planned that this would be starting movie to a series or as a standalone movie event, it only works as a starter movie. It’s great at providing a background to the how and why of Cap. as well as a number of other characters that will become important throughout the universe.

Watch this movie only if you intend to either watch more of them straight after, or if you need to actually get an understanding of why Cap is like he is.
