Andy is finally heading off to college, and that means his toys are going to be left behind. They aren’t coping to well with that, and it goes downhill from there when Andy’s mum accidentally takes the box of toys bound for the attic and donates them to a local day-care centre run by the maniacal bear called Lots-O’Huggin, a pink, strawberry-scented teddy bear.
Lots-O manages to secure Buzz and set him back to demo mode leaving him to guard the now incarcerated toys in the centre, as they all try to plan a way to escape (have you noticed that all three of these movies involve having to escape from somewhere?) the centre and get back their freedom.
Eventually they all end up in the garbage disposal mere seconds away from certain destruction when it comes a turning point in the toys life with Lots-O.
I watched this immediately after the disappointing original and the slightly better sequel, and was moved by it more than the last two. Still not great, and while the story is still good (although repeated for a third time) I feel the impending death scenes towards the end finally got those touches of emotion through to me.
Best of the three so far.
It will be interesting as to what Toy Story 4 is like in June next year (2019)…..
