Tonight it’s another cook off in the Masterchef *cough* MKR finals kitchen. They all have a set period of time to cook a 3 course menu, and serve it when they are ready for each dish.Most importantly every dish needs to have dairy as the hero of it. But tonight there’s a big target tonight. The winner gets a guaranteed spot in the semi’s.

***The menu below is in order of when it went out by meal stage***


Entree 1: Stella and Jazzey – Basked Cheese Bruschetta and pear chutney. Its so moist and so flavoursome, with the tang from the pears is great

Entree 2: Olga and Valeria – Akroshka. Manu loves this and it’s just delicious, and Pete can’t stop getting spoonfuls.

Entree 3: Henry and Anna – Three-Cheese Souffle. Manu just about buries his face in it before Pete can even get a fork out. “Yum, yum, yum” as Manu said.

Entree 4: Kim and Suong – Creamy Lobster Chowder. The bacon goes wonderfully with the lobster, and the stock is great.


Main 1: Olga and Valeria – Yozhiki with Braised Barley. There are nods and murmurs of enjoyment, their balls are just so juicy. Manu pictures himself in the snow, but Pete wanted more sauce.

Main 2: Stella and Jazzey – Eye Fillet with oyster cream. Steak is perfectly cooked, the sauce is exceptional, the veggies are wonderful.

Main 3: Henry and Anna – Blue Cheese Quiche. They have packed a huge amount fo flavour into this quiche, and the blue cheese is just strong enough to not overpower the dish.

Main 4: Kim and Suong – Grilled Blue Eye with Buerre Blanc Sauce. It is a great sauce, well cooked fish, beautifully cooked chips and well seasoned.


Dessert 1: Henry and Anna – Gin and Lemon Cheesecake. Its light full of the lemon flavour, and the gin has a good kick. Well designed dessert.

Dessert 2: Olga and Valeria – Guriev Kasha. Great brulee top, great smell and strong flavours.

Dessert 3: Kim and Suong –  Crepe’s with Berry Compote. Despite all the problems they had, they finally got it together, and the compote is strong but not too much.

Dessert 4: Stella and Jazzey – White Choc Mousse with Raspberries. Very light and fluffy, but not too sweet.

So which two teams topped the boards tonight and are competing for a spot in the semis’? Stella and Jazzey, their creations were so great and delicious and everything just worked so well together. The other safe team is Kim and Suong somehow managed to get their act together and get the second spot.

To help judge the second round Pete and Manu bring in Colin. They have no limit on the ingredients, but they do only have an hour in order to prepare their dish. They can create anything they want with anything they want.

Kim and Suong get straight into making a dish that (as described by the Italian boys Nic and Josh) is just a “risotto with too much liquid”. A seafood congee. Lots of veggies and rice are being prepared. But they are cooking their fish very early, and everyone is concerned about them overcooking it.

Stella and Jazzey start to prepare and put together crispy skinned barramundi with an olive tapenade and cauliflower puree. The fish is in the oven for 7-8 minutes left, and there’s only 8 minutes left to start with.

It’s going to be one hell of a finish.

Stella and Jazzy’s dish was the first to be tasted. Pete’s fish was exceptionally, Manu was likewise pleased, and the tapenade was well made, and the puree tasty and smooth.

Kim and Suong dish was a gorgeous. The amount of flavour in the hour long stock was phenomenal, and the seafood was cooked to perfection. A lot of work went into their dish, and the flavour paid off.

Somehow it Kim and Suong who have managed to get into the semi final.

So we now have a third team in the semi’s along with Josh and Nic, and Alex and Emily.

Tomorrows event will be for the final spot in the semi’s.
