When Toby the son of an exceptionally brilliant roboticist gets killed in an unfortunate weapons demonstration, his dad recreates him as a robot before coming to the conclusion that “new” Toby, just isn’t the same as “old” Toby and discards him.
But not before the military tries to get their hands on him, and after a series of devastating attacks sends Toby off the edge of Metro City and down to the surface, where he gets “rescued” by some “fellow” humans and a robotic dog called “trash can”.
The military doesn’t stop trying to find him and nor does his dad when he comes to realise his mistake. But when he eventually gets found and brought back to Metro City, it’s on for young and old when it becomes a battle of the “positive Blue energy” versus the “negative Red energy”. A battle of good versus evil.
It’s an ok movie, but it does fall a long way short of where the great animated series or the 80’s, but it’s ok. Naturally the graphics are waaaay better, but you’d expect that given the progressive talents and capability improvements that have happened over the last 30 odd years.
It’s a different enough movie to watch and enjoy, but you probably won’t be going to watch it repeatedly every night for a month.
