Tonight we are in western Sydney again with Olga and Valeria’s as the rounds final Ultimate Instant Restaurant where tonights efforts will decide if Jess and Emma remain in the competition.
With all the teams and the judges here tonight the show the menu and explain each of the dishes, and Jess and Emma get a glimmer of hope as they really don’t like the sound of much of what they hear.
Olga and Valeria’s Menu:
Entree 1: Dressed herring terrine
Entree 2: Chebureki with tomato relish
Main 1: Ox tongue in apple dough with porcini mushrooms
Main 2: Solyanka soup
Dessert 1: Izba cake
Dessert 2: Pashka with cranberry curd
Like everyone else they are super quick to get into the prep. Getting their desserts organised and in the coolers, they get their ox tongue in the pot and the tomato relish started for the Chebureki.
As they bring their entrees out there is a lot of sounds of “oooh” and “ahhhh”. Pete had the terrine and he really enjoyed it, the flavours worked extremely well together. Manu had the ‘spicy” chebureki, and whilst he enjoyed the dish, he didn’t find it spicy enough for his likes. The contestants (as they almost always do) echo’d the judges remarks.
Getting on with their mains they get the meat out of the pressure cooker and start to get the bones and fatty sections out of it for the Solyanka. They start to peel the boiled ox tongue and out at the table the conversation is how Jess and Emma just can’t wrap their heads around how anyone could eat a tongue.
They start closing off all the mains and plating them up, going with the very common style of overfeeding their guests.
Manu begins with the ox tongue dish, and it is well cooked, but was disappointed in how they made his dish when they tried to modernise it. Pete had the Solyanka soup and loved all of it, especially the broth. But Jess and Emma advise they’d rather lick a homeless person toes than eat it.
Getting stuck into finishing off their desserts now, working on the cranberry curd and polishing off the izba cake. But not a great deal of time is spent on showing us what was happening at the end here before plating.
Manu had the Izba cake, and his initial comments are non-existent (after yet another very annoying ad break).
The scoring begins, their entree’s tonight gave them a 8 and a 10, starting them on 18. Mains also give them the scores of 5 and 10, getting them up to 33. To finish of the night the lovely little desserts get them a 8 and a 10 putting them to 51, and the guest offered up 36. Giving the the top spot with a score of 87.
This leaves Jess and Emma on the bottom of the ladder and out of the competition.
