The year is 1939 and the world has grown up a bit differently where we have stuck with coal because their scientists have been disappearing, depriving the world of their inventions. No radio, tv, electricity, aviation or the combustion engine. The world is stuck with really outdated technology, so the world is stuck in the steam era.
April and her parents are scientists working on the something called the “Ultimate Serum” are being chased across France until her parents vanish in a deadly black electrical cloud. April then spends the next 10 years trying to find the recipe for the “Ultimate Serum” to save her talking cat Darwin.
As April gets a message from her father after all these years, April, Darwin, Julius and her grandfather Pops, go off in search of Avril’s parents, two of the missing scientists. The quartet faces many challenges and a country that is trying to recapture them and the mysteries in this strange new Steampunk World.
I thought that this movie was tastefully done. The artistry of the graphics is well done and at least seems to be period appropriate in its design. I really enjoyed the story (and I won’t mention the ‘lizards in control’ or anything like that) as it was somewhat emotional and pulls you into the struggles and pain of young April.
