There has been so much hype to this movie (which was spawned by a book that I do confirm I have not read) that I just could not resist not having a look at it.
The movie is set in 2045 where the virtual reality world (well, really it’s a universe, not just a world) Oasis, whose creator left behind a prize, an easter egg that will give whoever finds it ultimate power in Oasis, and both ownership over it and control.
But it’s not just that simple, there’s also 3 keys that you need to collect first to reach the area where this easter egg, this ultimate prize resides. And in 5 years no-one has yet passed the test for the first key. Until Wade stumbles upon the secret for how to find it.
Graphically, this movie is exceptionally impressive, the storyline felt like this was the ultimate in cross over episode from a TV show, the soundtrack however, this is where I feel this movie was let down. It just really wasn’t great and to me just didn’t fit in some of the scenes.
What I did love though, is how they brought the dangers of the real world into the movie. The whole anonymity doesn’t protect you when the internet finds out who you really are. Or where you are. Or who your friends, you family are. When billions on the internet are after you, the tens or even hundreds you may have with you, can’t and won’t help you.
