Now with the mergers of the two groups, and tonight we’re watching Group 1 with their 1st public cook off for 60 people including Group 2, and in this episode they are preparing High Tea at the beautiful Hydro Majestic in the amazing scenery of the NSW Blue Mountains.
It’s literally 12 minutes in, and I am over Roula and Rachael already. Oh. My. God. And the Italian boys are getting distracted by the sex appeal of their dough (Marvin Gaye playing in the background probably doesn’t help).
Then Group 2 comes in to have a look at what is going on, and in their glorious nature, the Russians Olga and Valeria stop by Roula and Rachaels work station and bring their beautiful critiquing points to bear. Ahhh, I’ve missed their blunt ways.
As Group 2 does the whole “meet and distract” the Italian boys chat to the Italian boys, and well, “They’re definitely from the south”, and I burst out laughing. Nothing quite like a healthy bit of geographical competition.
How do the Italians keep managing to miss the fact that they aren’t turning (or leaving) the oven on. First it was the Nonna couple in the Elimination House, and now the Italian boys.
Finally Colin turns up to the Roula and Rachael’s bench. Yes!!! And they have a pigsty work area, and Colin is ripping into them about it. But, oh no. Roula doesn’t take it lying, instead, she blames it all on Rachael. Yeah great teamwork ladies! Hope it costs you. *I really liked these two as they came through the instant restaurant I don’t know when they went bat shit crazy.
I do love how every single team is freaking out when it comes to plating it up for all 60 serves. None of them seemed to realise how much pressure there is when it comes to this portion of the day. But once this is over that’s it. There is nothing more they can do. Nothing more they try to save themselves.
This is it.
I do feel sorry for Kim and Suong though they really just bit off more than they could chew, and it just didn’t pay off for them. They just couldn’t get enough made, and so quite a few of the three tiered plates are missing their dish, and that will hurt their scores quite badly I expect
Stella and Jazzy’s little tart (with the lot) makes both of the judges eat their words on simplicity when they get a mouthful of that amazing mixture of flavours.
Kim and Suong’s spring rolls while unusual, was pleasant but not exceptional.
Jess and Emma’s Sticky Date pudding, but they didn’t get the praline out with it, was remarkably light and soft.
Alex and Emily Snapper ceviche is just mild and doesn’t punch enough.
Josh and Nic’s Cheesecake tart with lemon curd, was just too sweet, topped with more sweetness, but looks beautiful.
Roula and Rachaels choc mousse with raspberry and coconut, and the first thing is both judges look nearly horrified and it, “blegh”. And this is a fairly singular repetition of commentary across everyone.
Because of this Roula and Rachael, are the Group 1 team who have been selected for Elimination House. And Roula, does a Roula.
Next episode will have Group 2 cooking at a medieval fair, and it seems that Roula will continue to run her mouth off.
