The life and times of one of the greatest musicians of our times despite his blindness from his very early childhood, the true piano man, Ray Charles. His songs have lived in our souls and hearts since we first heard them.
From his very grounded and humble beginnings in the “coloured neighbourhoods” of northern Florida (isn’t it great that we have gotten beyond that rubbish), this story is told from his adulthood with frequent flashbacks to his childhood growing up, showing his introduction to the piano, the death of his brother and so much more.
This is a touching, emotional film showing showing his struggles to survive in a world that only wanted to hold him back, or to cheat him because (and quite honestly) he was blind. He rose to levels of greatness that few ever do.
I LOVED this film. I grew up with this legends songs being played on LP’s (look it up you little grasshoppers) by my father, with that magical crackle that that medium brings you, listening to his moving voice sings the words to his songs with so much emotion and passion.
If you haven’t seen this movie, and know o this great man, go and watch it as soon as you can, I promise you it will be worth it.
