Tonights episode brings us the cooking of Davide (don’t call him David) and Marco (Polo – sorry couldn’t help myself), the Italian life long friends from WA.
Entrees: Eggplant Parmigiana with orange and fennel salad
Mains: Pesce al Forno with rosemary roast potatoes (Italian fish & chips)
Desserts: Bigne (Italian profiteroles) with a chocolate or vanilla custard or chantilly cream
It’s great to see that they have shown the pain in making custard from scratch with the time and patience that it takes to get it to thicken and *sploot* with bubbles. But as they pipe out and put their Bigne into the oven, I just find my self thinking that that oven is just too high up the wall. It would be eye height to a short person.
When they get the entrees out to the waiting guests, both Pete and Manu agree that the eggplant parmigiana tasted great but the salad not so much, and after Manu gave a little feedback regarding the presentation.
Well, didn’t the russian ladies bite at him about that, saying that he was sending mixed messages as to what to do. Yep, attacking the judges, great move dumb-arses.
But the problems don’t stop there. Just before Marco goes to put the potatoes in the oven, when the power goes out, but it doesn’t stop them getting on with it.
Pete pops a piece of potato in his mouth and you can hear the crunch of it when he bites down. Pete almost looks moved to tears when he’s delivering his critique and Manu loved his to bits too.
When they bring out the Bigne, Manu is impressed by the 3 that are on the plate, both judges dig the fillings, and Manu makes the comments that they shouldn’t get them straight out of the oven.
Naturally the russians claim they’ve had better. But of course they have.
The total score that they got at the end of the night was 99 throwing the life long friends into 2nd.
Next episode is the russians, can they cook???
