Star Wars: The Last Jedi – 2017

IMDB: Star Wars: The Last Jedi – 2017

IMDB Rating: 7.5/10

Rotten Tomatoes: 90%

Well, as with “The Force Awakens” the latest of the Star Wars “Disney franchise” has divided the Star Wars community between the old fans (lets call them the original extended universe – OEU), and the new new fans (lets call them the new Disney universe – NDU).

For disclosure I consider myself very much part of the OEU, but not to the fanatical levels of some of the fans of the OEU. For those who haven’t seen the movie yet, I’ll try to keep most spoilers out of this, but read it at your own peril.

This episode finds us after the awakening of Rey into the force, and a host of questions being raised. This movie answer so of those questions, but raises its own.

One such occurrence that does get raised by this movie is that regarding the character of Rose Tico (played by Kelly Tran) which for some reason gets a lot of hate online, and I can’t understand why. Yes, her character felt a little 2D, but given the characters recent experiences, it felt kinda necessary, but there are those who like to disagree.

Another amusing aspect is how Luke gets his “blue milk”. Which has created it’s own series of memes online at much cost, and I have certainly seen my fair share of “Rule 34” (use that link or potentially google — for gods sake do not Google Image it at work — it at your own risk) imagery and meme of their own.

All in all, the movie is a great movie, and a decent continuation of the overall story (even if it ignores so much of the OEU, and the NDU just isn’t quite the same). The biggest hit for me, is that it is a massive 2 and a half hours long which for movies is just so extremely rare given that most movies are maybe 90 minutes long.

So you might ask, is this worth seeing? My answer to you is, yes.
